Because decent, law abiding folks of America are allowing them to get away with this thing.
I don’t have any real answers but this much I can tell you, and I include myself in this. It is easier to open your phone or computer to call and talk or text to some and gripe about what is going on in this country rather than standing up to fascism. We the People are not organizing and marching against this nonsense happening in America. Some do stand up but not in huge numbers and not relentlessly. MLK had a dream but We the people wanting justice are letting it die. (IMO)
I am probably going to get some pushback on this post and that is OK. Boomers are old and dying now and some boomers help create this mess we are in by giving their children and grandchildren a sense of entitlement. * thinking they would not have to fight for freedoms and outright justice for all).
They wanted them to not have to fight like many of us did when we were young during the sixties. The Vietnam War was raging and people and friends and loved ones were dying in a war we had no business in. (Many without a choice) They were drafted. Blacks and other people of color were refused to eat in places or to vote or have any sense of equality.
Women were treated as second class citizens and it was not unusual for them to face Friday night beatings. Killing POC was not unheard of back then. It is not unheard of today. Dogs and abuses were common at protests. There was even killing at Kent State. There was no technology so people had to take a stand in person. Change did not come quickly. In some cases it is still out there unchanged. There were no video games to hide into. The country was divided then as well between the youth and the parents. The hippies and the establishment. The white against black. The religious against non religious. Nixon was saying the President did not have to abide by the law.
We had people like MLK and RFK Sr, who stood up and said No. This has to change. They had a following. Many tuned them out and complained around the dinner table and hoped things got better and many got out in the street and said, “No More”.
After Clinton left office with a surplus and the Supreme Court put their finger on the scale and Bush took office things rapidly started going back to the things we fought against and Iraq being one of those things. There were protests but not like the protests of the past. When Columbine happened, our party wanted to stand against the NRA and ban assault rifles. What has happened within the last few months disregarding the gun safety law? Supreme Court is corrupted. People yell about it and post about it but nobody other than AOC is trying to do something about it. Where is her backup? Where is her encouragement?
Violence is not the answer but peaceful protest can and should be happening every single day in this country. People joining hands and saying “NO MORE”. We need law and order and accountability and demand resignations and impeachments. LBJ could not handle all the protests and decided he would not run because he felt hated by the overwhelming protests. Of course we got Nixon and he was the worst thing we could have gotten….until now.
In the 60’s we did not have Cable News Networks with all kinds of opinions, factual and non factual. This is not to say we did not have propaganda but not at our fingertips through the internet. There was no internet. People just did not put up with crap as easily as they do today. Look at this MLK video and tell me we have someone willing to risk their life and others following willing to risk their with non violence to save this democracy . Before you open up and sit down with your video game, ask yourself, “What am I doing to get out the vote”? What am I doing to try and hold on to this country?
Examine yourself.. Occupy Wall Street was a damn good beginning but it fizzed out. I am examining myself. What happened with Trump was horrible and should never be the answer to the means. That deal gave him more power. Allowing MAGA to protect King Trump and the redhats without accountability for their actions and not getting justices removed is not the way to hold on to democracy. It is up to WE the People who should be shutting off networks, making phone calls, closing video games and organizing protests wherever we see injustice instead of whining. I am including myself in this scenario . I am going on 75 years old and I see even my own younger family just complaining and not doing anything to try and stop this madness. Activists need to be active not one day, not one weekend but everyday and it may mean protesting after work and yes one could even lose their job. Protests (PEACEFUL) should be happening as I type.
If I were Joe and Mika I would quit MSNBC if their freedom of speech and expression was not allowed on air as it was taken off this morning. The RNC is tonight and Marjorie Taylor Green and her MAGA self is going to pumping hate… Bank on it.
Have the democrats and all freedom loving people just said, “Oh well, it is what it is”. Trust me if Trump goes in, he won’t leave and there will be no more protests, not peaceful anyway., IMO. There will always be a Trump like person unless people are willing to stand up for freedoms. These folks could only get away with what they are doing because we are allowing it. WE ARE ALLOWING the Maga power players.

When we have finally had ENOUGH...It may be too late. The eye of the tiger should be within Freedom loving folks’ right now.
