There was a time when taking your children to the polling place to vote was something civic minded folks looked forward to. There was a time placing a sign in your yard for a candidate you supported that no one gave a moment’s thought about. There was a time when speaking from a podium about gathering citizens to get out and vote. Yes, there was a time. There was a time when you could call out lies and misinformation regarding our political candidates without fear of being attacked or property damage or possible physical harm. There was a time violence was not tied to political candidates and their supporters.
The times have changed and one must be courageous and want to hold on to the America that the majority of us who are not black or brown have taken for granted. We have had one man stir up a cult of lies and poison our legislative process. Then he recruited an army of haters. Once that violent genie is out of the bottle, it will take decades if ever to put the genie back in. When Marjorie Taylor Green and others are pushing for tearing down this country, then we have become the S...hole country of projection the former guy projected about America. He called countries other than America, Shithole countries but the truth is he was dreaming of America becoming that Shithole country and lying and spreading conspiracies to make that a reality.
I challenge everyone who cares about Dad’s and Mom’s and Grandparents who went to vote and spoke out against untruths and violence and sent their kids off to war to preserve our democracy and walked in uncertain times to preserve our way of life, to honor them by voting. All we have to do is stand up, vote and say, “Enough”. I am old enough to remember Selma and the marches of MLK and the protests in Washington and believe me, it took courage.
If you do not vote, or know folks who say, “ What’s the use,” then we will get something in this country we have never experienced with the exception of Jim Crow and Slavery. Don’t think it can’t happen. It can. Americans got complicit and allowed these fringe people tear down our country and it is up to every one of us to march ourselves to the polling place and vote. It is up to us to say, “ENOUGH”. Put down your phones. Get off the couch, and go save your country. I think a wise man by the name of Barack OBama said that Saturday. Nobody thought Roe V Wade would go away. It did.
My tag line used to be . “Just do it”. Well, just do it. I have heard people on here say, “Oh I think everyone is going to vote from this site.” I know a little secret. I know some members afraid to vote. I won’t name names but I know some members who are sitting it out.
What kind of lives will we have if we don’t save this country? We will have to be courageous at some point. We will have to fight to survive, kneel to the autocrats, or Vote. You choose because that is what we are facing.
Get out the vote. I have voted. I can spend my time encouraging you to face reality and take someone with you. Don’t be afraid of the intimidation. Just Vote. Vote Blue up and down the ticket.
