Attorney General Merrick Garland deflected questions about whether the Justice Department is investigating legal violations by former President Donald Trump and about the reach of the ongoing probe into the U.S. Capitol riots on Jan. 6 at his first congressional oversight hearing since he arrived to run the Justice Department seven months ago.
Garland, who had been an appeals court judge for more than two decades before joining the Biden administration this year, told members of the House Judiciary Committee that he is laboring to keep the Justice Department out of politics after four years of chaos during the Trump presidency
General Garland, it is not political when it is criminal. I know I am just a citizen but criminals need to be brought to justice. Bannon is flaunting his contempt. From where I sit, contempt of court is still punishable by law.
General, let’s get on the same page of enforcing laws. That is NOT political. I think you know by not prosecuting those we know who in your face are breaking the law should be prosecuted. If it were me or any other average citizen, we would be held accountable.
I think we need someone Mr. President to make sure people are brought to justice or at least make an attempt to bring them to justice in a quick manner of time.
