I hate the bickering on the Feel the Bern or Say Hill diaries. I hate it. I say that but I must write a post on the optics of this weekend and why it is not a good one in my opinion for Secretary Clinton. I voted for Bernie Sanders and Hillary won Florida. That of course was expected as Clinton is loved in Florida. Hillary depends on special interest money. That is an undeniable fact. I love her smile. I appreciate her calm. I will vote for her in the general if she is the nominee. It looks like she will be the nominee. I do not appreciate the pandering she has done. I hope I am not breaking a Kos rule here but this will be brought up in the general and people need to know how to respond. I surely do not.
When she spoke to Diane Sawyer saying she and Bill were dead broke after leaving the White house, it brought outrage. Do not think for a minute it will not be used in ads against her. I do not know if she believed it but she said it. She was talking as though she lived in a bubble and had no concept of what being broke, or poor or even put out of the way monetarily is about.
Many of us on here know exactly what being broke is. We know an evening out is sometimes a stretch to go to Sonny’s BBQ. We know a movie once a year at a theatre is a real luxury. We know that a stay at a Motel 6 is a reality and having to settle for a 3rd floor suite at the Waldorf would hardly be considered dead broke. We would think that would be a grand elite stay that we would have to pay for with no lights and groceries for months on end. I have no idea what she meant in 2008 when claiming to be under sniper fire. I could sit in the garage but that would not make me a car. It did not make her a combat warrior to say such a thing. This just made her appear to be clueless . This is the problem I have with Hillary.
Bernie comes off many times as a gruff old grandfather but he is consistently on message with his money priorities and his hope for more equality for the masses. He gets impatient when trying to respond to defend a position but when a polished politician smiles and makes people believe that their wages should be left up to states starting with 12.00 mandated an hour, it would make the opposition a bit angry. We know how well that idea of medicaid has worked out leaving it to States.
There is truly class warfare but not just between the rich and the poor. There is warfare of those who appear to have income they can depend upon or those with deep pockets. This is not an absolute and not meant to be broadstroked but many who can’t see the money division have crawled into that bubble in my opinion...Because, to the young and many poor, it is so obvious. This brings me to the point of this weekend. While Senator Sanders is in the fight of his life for his homestate of New York, he is talking equality and the poor at the Vatican. Sec. Clinton is having a huge fundraiser out in Hollywood with George Clooney and the rich and famous at 300,000 a pop for a meal. Now to me, this is a real disconnect with the working poor. She may have said she misspoke in that interview, but people hurting have not forgotten the statement.
I will vote for Hillary Clinton if she is the nominee but this type of disconnect really bothers me. I know she is qualified to be president but can she truly identify with the poor’s problems? Can she really be ready on day one to lift this country out of the economic ruin we have been in? The people are really tired of politics as usual. Fundraising with the rich and famous is politics as usual.
Look at this total disconnect between the average Jane or Joe who is really broke and her definition of poor at her interview. This cannot be spun. This is real and she needs to release her transcripts.
Hillary Clinton is walking the line between being remarkably successful and yet still in touch with the lives of ordinary people. The former secretary of state and potential 2016 presidential candidate has found herself trying to limit blowback to her claim that she and husband Bill were "dead broke" when they left the White House.
She made the comment during an interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer. Sawyer pressed Clinton on a reported haul of $5 million in speaking fees.
"You have no reason to remember, but we came out of the White House not only dead broke, but in debt," Clinton said. "We had no money when we got there, and we struggled to piece together the resources for mortgages for houses, for Chelsea's education. It was not easy. Bill has worked really hard. And it's been amazing to me. He's worked very hard."
Republicans called the claim laughable and the next day Clinton clarified, again on ABC, that she and Bill had done very well over the past 14 years.
Now look at really hurting and broke.
x YouTube VideoEveryone has a right to vote for their primary pick for whatever reason they have. I personally did not have enough money to pick Hillary as my first choice. If she considered herself dead broke, then what are people who are standing on the edge of ruin thought to be? I used to think she was more electable… after all the pandering and disconnect, I don’t know anymore. i hope I did not break any kos rules but this is the truth from one who feels the pain economically.. not as much as some but more than others.
