I wasn’t going to write a diary on this but decided to. I noticed a diary by OPOL that was political but in reality it is personal to all of we 99 percenters as well. Ignore class warfare at your own peril, I think is the title. This is not a polticial diary per se… This is a personal account of how one can be treated by scripted people from the big corporations. Friday evening I got a real taste of class warfare and dismissing me as a person based on my wealth or lack of it rather. They tried to dismiss me… I am not easily dismissed...just a character flaw I guess because I don’t normally just hang up. We are dissed everyday. I believe that. We are just used to tuning out the raised nose and poo poo on you attitude. I think we are being conditioned to be made to feel inferior. Even if we verbally tongue lash the masters or their workers out, the pain comes out other ways. Stress or worry or even physical probelms. We start evaluating our failures or coulda , woulda, shoulda’s in life , The brow beating is real.
I have a very best friend that I told this about and she and I are so very close and the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to share with ya’ll because this stuff is real. I wrote her probably distressing over how that person made me feel and flash that anger button on me.
I am quoting this word for word from my email. I don’t know why these things bother me unless I thought the vacation time taken by some folks and in my case completely has been death or advocacy related. The truth is that Going to a funeral, especially if it is your Daddy or grandson, is not a vacation. I have been having upset stomachs dealing with some of this grief and these calls are just icing on the cake to make you realize...you ARE not worthy in so many’s eyes.
from my letter to my good friend… ( I am lucky I have such a great friend to confide in). I had a strange phone call again...You will love this one... sounded like I was in a Bernie ad. I got a phone call late Friday from Holiday Inn Express saying they were offering me a promotion to go somewhere for an eighty percent discount on the motel. Now all I had to do was answer some questions.. I looked down and yes it said Holiday Inn..on the caller Id. I said well we rarely go anywhere but if the price was cheap enough..no harm in answering the questions. He said...Are you married? Dumb question IMO but I said yes… Do you have a visa or debit card that you would book your reservations? I said yes. He said....Do you make 50,000 annually. I said ..No. He said well wait how about you and your spouse together? I said. Well we are on a fixed income and have 5 people in the home so no we are social security/disabled dependent. His whole tone changed. He said in a condescending way, " Oh I am sorry.. I won't bother you anymore". I said . "Hold on there". Why are you sorry? I never said we were reaking in poverty. I never said we were miserable. I never said anything like that. But now that I have answered your questions regarding my income and your pity for people who are at least fortunate enough to have an income coming in, " Let me tell you something.." Your business and every big corporation has their priorities all screwed up. The well to do , do no need a promotion to go spend some time in a decent hotel. The well to do have no need for a discounted anything because they CAN afford to spend time at quality places but because they are meeting a certain income bracket does not mean they are more deserving of a vacation that the waitress or senior down the street struggling on minimum wage or FIXED incomes. There was a time a promotional offer meant to get to know the place and if people saved enough they could visit that hotel or resort or whatever, but no more.. It is all about dividing the classes and looking down on people and not understanding their plight to some dignity that has been placed on them to prove their worth. How dare you? You are representative of everything that the one percenters are all about and you can take your promotion and shove it up your ass because I had rather stay in a dump or sleep in a mosquito filled tent than giveup one more cent to a rich snobby company that think people deserve things based on their status of income. Your job is to work for the man to oppress people who do not bring in 50K a year.. So stupid.. I could lie, I could do all sorts of things and you would never know the difference. Your job I am quite sure does not pay 50K but they give you a script to make people feel bad or try to.. I suggest you try to find a more honorable job. I do so hope this conversation was recorded .. And I hung up... Jack had an outhouse growing up..I didn't but he did and I don't think he ever felt poor. See these kind of little remarks and looks after people find out what your financial worth is, is becoming more than annoying and yes, ignore this at your own peril. It is not pretty. It is not comfortable. People are no longer accepted for their character. Even some of the 10 cent millionaires as I call them, think if they have materially more...they are better. This is why people like Rick Scott can say to a former commissioner, a public servant, “ Why don’t you have a job”? This is why people are calling people who depend on Food stamps, leaches and welfare bums. Stand up to these people because it wears on your mind. No I realize I don’t go on vacations. I go on death vigils normally when I leave home. I say to the people who can afford a little vacation… Good but don’t think everyone has that luxury. They don’t. I just had to get that off my chest. We are better off than so many people and not as well off as others but people should not be discounted by class. People should be appreciated for their efforts and who they are. They should never be judged by the color of their skin, their gender, their choice of partners, religion or the size of their wallet.
