No Nicknames in Fl. schools by law..unless parental consent

Just when you didn’t think Florida laws could get no more stupid...Add this to the pile on.

New law in Florida prohibits teachers from using a name that's not on a child's birth certificate without parental consent. Parents have to give consent even for teachers to use nicknames.

So glad my kids are graduated so I can stay out of jail after visiting Ronald for this stupidity.  I would give him a tongue lashing like he never had.  We have so many problems like outrageous home owners insurance, unaffordable housing and they are worried up there in Tallahassee about John or Johnny names.

All of our kids would have required a note from we as parents to call Tony...Tony and not Anthony.

Christopher...Christopher and not Chris...Elizabeth….Elizabeth and not Beth and our youngest was given a cute nickname her senior year because she had too many with the same name in her class.

What a bunch of horseshit to worry about.

I better stop right here with this reporting because it makes me mad that stupid has been legislated to this level.  Does a teacher not have enough to worry about?  I have no idea what the consequences are if you mess up and call them by a name not on the birth certificate.  Probably in this state, a public lashing would not surprise me.

Ronald needs to be called Ronald everywhere and who cares what people call him for his last name.

NPR had a segment reporting this.  I tried to tell my husband about this and he told me to stop.  He could only handle so much Stupid in one day from idiot governors and politicians.  So I thought I would tell ya’ll.

If your child prefers going by a nickname, get ready to be greeted by a new form this school year.

Florida students will need parental permission to go by anything other than their legal name due to recent legislation signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The new measure comes after memos were sent to parents by Orange County Public Schools and Seminole County Public Schools officials Tuesday afternoon, just days before the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
