I am not a huge fan of the 4th of July Boom Boom Boom but I have fond memories I am sure as many do on the 4th as a child. We had parades, all day events with BBQ at the city park, Fireworks displays and get togethers. This was in Georgia. People proudly displayed their flags and main street was lined with flags. This was true for even this town in Florida up until this year.
Allow me to explain. When we moved down here in 2011, there was a fireworks display that disrupted with the boom boom every dog and veteran in the county but it was on the 3rd instead of the 4th which was very confusing to me. I even posted it back in 2011. I wanted to take my 5 year old to see the fireworks and leave hubby at home. Now I guess I don’t have worry so much about the loud bombs bursting in air.
My husband went Saturday to play guitar at a small fishing village for a friend of his..(I did not go) and he came home and said there were little golf carts with Trump signs on them and no floats and it was then all over. He said it looked silly and not at all like a parade. Well, to be fair it is a small fishing village with few residents. One fire engine and one police car and I think he said 4 or 5 golf carts. ( THESE ARE PATRIOTS)? No fireworks over the gulf? He was glad there was no boom boom fireworks and he headed home. They did not play many songs.
I was preparing for the loud noises tonight and can walk outside and see the fireworks over the lake across the street normally, even though it is not the 4th but the third which obviously Florida cannot read a calender. The 4th is Tuesday not Monday. Not even on the 3rd this year, Some little something on the 2nd I was told later.
The little parade at the fishing village was on the 1st I think. Regardless, pet owners and vet spouses prepare for the 4th and New Years. ( Normally ) , This is not true when you have no clue when the town decides to have a celebration and on what day.
This year I noticed NO FLAGS displayed on the street poles downtown. Every year in all of my years it was a big deal to display the flags downtown. in any town. Not this year. Not in my area. I noticed them here in Trump country to display flags for God only knows why they decided to have a Patriotic day in June most residents did not know about. No fireworks but parades and music downtown and kids playing. Tonight I heard nothing. Nothing.
This is the third. I decided to go in the front yard to see if I saw the finale of the fireworks even though I heard nothing but had hubby tucked away with a good movie in the bedroom ( volume up and the cat inside). Nothing. I told my daughter I was going to look for any kind of activities. I drove by the lake and it looked like we had a total exile in the town. I drove further until I was smack dab in downtown and every business it seemed most were shuttered and closed which I had never seen with the bars and pubs and ice cream shops that looked closed. I know the pizza shop and ice cream parlor was closed and a few street lights out. We had no storms today. It absolutely looked like a ghost town. I drove back home and my son told me they shot off fireworks last night in a different place on the 2nd and there was no parade. Keep in mind no flags displayed….. ON THE 4th of JULY !!!!! He said they had some folks making music at one of the parks but no big deal, well at least no bigger than any other Saturday night but this was on a Sunday. Well knock me over with a feather as I did not even hear boom boom from surrounding neighbors. Nothing. Maybe tomorrow but the fireworks business did not seem to have any business all week. We heard one boom all evening and I think it was a shotgun. There was traffic very heavy today and the day before but where were these people going in this town? My curioisity was a bit sparked. I was bumfuzzled at the lack of any kind of 4th of July doings. I was bumfuzzled at no flag display from residents or the town. Is this country dying because of the cult of Trump?
The city of Orlando, Florida, has apologized over a statement made while promoting its Fourth of July fireworks special that said it "can't blame" people who don't "want to celebrate our nation right now."
And then the right blamed the left for making the statement… Of course it did… It came from Fox Last year.
"A lot of people probably don't want to celebrate our nation right now, and we can't blame them," the original statement said, according to WESH-TV. "When there is so much division, hate and unrest, why on earth would you want to have a party celebrating any of it?"
In all of my years I have never seen such a lack of interest on Independence Day. Never. I did not know what to make of it. It won’t be tomorrow because every little town in central Florida celebrates on different days starting on Friday. Ours was listed for the 2nd and it was pitiful. First time I have seen that posted on the internet on What towns would have some sort of activity for the 4th and on what day in central Florida. It was posted today and half the things were all over and done with. The blue area of the state seemed to have celebrations going on for tomorrow but the red run areas seemed to be on strike or something. I caught where Tampa had a big deal TONIGHT but not on the 4th. They even had the Army band playing. They also showed fireworks displayed over lakes and the gulf. (I caught that on the news) Not on the 4th. Isn’t the 4th of July supposed to be celebrated on the 4th of July? All I have seen is all kinds of 4th of July sales going on but so many places are closed. I don’t get it.
Like I said, I am not a huge fan of the 4th but I do like the community get togethers with food and music and if I had small children I would be very disappointed. I was thinking of all of these so called patriots not celebrating. I thought of the Trump hoopla with signs on what parade I did hear about and the division in this country. Are the republicans so pissed they can’t celebrate the independence of this country under a Democratic President. What the hell? This is the first time I have ever really felt like America is not really America at all. Where are we as a nation other than ready to fight one another. It doesn’t mean that men and women died defending freedoms and that should be celebrated for their sacrafice but imo it means the right and their hatred is killing the spirit of America in every way possible.
I feel sorry for our youth. I feel sorry for those who let one man influence half the country into turning this country into a place I do not recognize and disregarding the truth from the founding fathers and embrace nazism. What have we become?
