I moved here again in 2011 and it has changed since Republicans have turned this state Blood Red.

Here are the facts:

This was from a post I picked up from a resident at the above site.

As rent continues to skyrocket in Florida, a new report has shed new light on just how unaffordable the Sunshine State has become, especially in South Florida. “I was paying $2,400 for a two [bedroom], two [bath]; 1,100 square foot, and then it went up to $3,800 in less than a year,” said Masta.Aug 3, 2022

MIAMI (WSVN) - It seems that more and more people are getting priced out of living in South Florida. Now, more proof of just how unaffordable it is to live in the Sunshine State.

“I live in Little Havana and work at a law firm in Brickell,” said Daniela Calvijo. “Currently, as a full-time student, and with a full-time job, I am unable to afford rent prices in this crazy market.”

“It’s high here compared to other places I have lived,” said a man in a purple button down shirt.

How much has the cost of living gone up in 2022 in Florida?
The cost of typical grocery items, like baked goods, meats and produce, rose 15 percent between 2020 and 2022. According to MIT's living wage calculator, food costs in Florida run about $3,351 per year for a single adult with no children. For a family of four, two adults and two children, that figure rises to $9,856.Oct 6, 2022

Anyone who’s been to the grocery store or filled up their gas tank lately knows that inflation is pushing Americans’ finances to the brink. And for residents of southern Florida, the pocketbook pain cuts even deeper.

In the U.S., consumer prices rose by 1.3% in the month of June alone — reflecting a leap of 9.1% total from one year ago, as announced in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) by the U.S. Bu

Insurance companies had a more than $1 billion underwriting loss in 2020 and again in 2021. Even with premiums going up so much, they're still losing money in Florida because of this. And that's part of the reason so many companies are deciding to leave.Oct 5, 2022

Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) last week. The prices for the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro area skyrocketed by a whopping 10.6% in June on a year-over-year basis.

People in other parts of the state are facing financial stress, too, with inflation in Florida’s other biggest metro area already above the double-digit mark. The BLS also breaks out detailed consumer pricing data for the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, on alternate months. In May, the consumer prices in greater Tampa jumped by an astonishing 11.3% — while the entire U.S. saw prices go up by 8.6% from May 2021.

Of course, the skyrocketing price of gas and other energy sources is a major contributor to inflation around the country, but the situation is worse down here: Nationwide, energy prices jumped by a whopping 41.6% from a year ago, but in greater Miami, they rose by a blistering 50.5%. Regular gas here rose 62.4% from last year, a bit higher than the nationwide 59.9% rise.

Climate Change is real.  My electric bill is higher every month more than over 300.00 just to stay moderately comfortable.  450.00 a month for 4 people is the norm.   We keep the air and heat on 69 in winter and 78 in summer.

My water bill is like 100 per month and that is high.  A few years ago with 5 people it was just 40,00 a month.  Now we are being charged access fees and transportation fees...What is that?  All kinds of fees.  They tax on top of fees.

We do not live high dollar.  We cut back and do without some things.

Why are we here?  We are elderly and on a fixed income and not in great health.

So why are 800 people a day moving here?  They think because there is no state tax it is cheaper.  It isn’t.  Not at all.

If I were younger, and in better health and my husband  well, and not disabled, we would move but we are way too old to find doctors and pick up and move.

So all of you freedumb Republicans who are looking at Florida to be free.  You are not.  You are under the thumb of Ron DeSantis.   Your wages are low and there is no medicaid expansion.  You get here and you are screwed.  You are also paying for whims of Desantis but you voted him back in.  He goes to Texas on your dime and sends migrants out of Texas to Martha’s Vineyard.   He has culture wars.  He fights with Disney.  He tells people not to worry about Covid causing many deaths and illnesses.

Geico told me that Florida is # 1 in highest homeowner insurance rates.  That is not just hurricanes.  That out ranked Earthquakes of California and their fires and volcanos in Hawaii.  You tell me.  I don’t get it.

I read this…

The big reason Florida insurance companies are failing isn’t just hurricane risk – it’s fraud and lawsuits
