Requiem for a Hero.. and schooling a coward

No Donald.   He is not a hero because he got captured.  He is a hero who sacraficed his life to serve in a war because this country called young men to serve in beautiful southeast Asia in a useless war.   Many soldiers fought and died and were mislead into a war that robbed thousands and thousands of lives.    He is a hero because he endured years of torture and almost unbearable isolation to not collude with the enemy after capture .   He is a hero because he did not give up locations of his  many fellow soldiers in the jungles, in the deltas, in the mountains, in many locations fighting and trying to survive. He did not sell out his country as you appear to have done.  

He was a prize for the enemy.  He had connections in his own family that could have him released early if he sold out to the enemy.  If he would only tell the enemy what they wanted to know, he may have been able to put his hands over his head to comb his own hair for the rest of his life.  He may have been able to  not sit in a prison in Hanoi being crushed and beaten, if he sold his brothers in arms out to the enemy.  The price was too high.  The sacrafice was real because my husband and thousands and thousands were not harmed physically because these Prisoners of War sacraficed their own health and well being to save others. 

He is a hero because after all that abuse  and return to US soil,he went back with John Kerry to look for those left behind.  That is what  heros do.  There are few.    He also wanted to normalize relations with the country in which he had suffered so greatly.  Why?  Patriotism is not about winning, losing or being captured.  Patriotism is about serving your country.  It is  always about the freedom of your countrymen and women and in the case of Vietnam, it was preserving the lives in danger on the battlefield.  It was about keeping men and women alive in the trenches.  It was about answering a call to arms and once placing the uniform on regardless of volunteering or draft, it was an oath to preserve those brothers in arms’ lives and liberty.  ( A liberty John McCain had been denied).  This is what makes him and other POW’s heros.   Honorably served veterans, mostly very young men away from home the first time, were far away from home and in a dangerous war.  A very unpopular war. 

Most came home with problems and people like Max Cleland, Tammy Duckworth, John Kerry, Bernie Sanders, and John McCain went to the floor of congress to make a veteran and veteran families a bit easier.  They opened doors to easier enrollment for medical service and benefits easier to obtain they had earned.   They served their country after leaving the military.  John Lewis and others helped build bridges on race relations only for people like DJT to burn down 

Healing  has to begin with accounting as best a country can for their Missing in Action and their war dead.   John McCain went back and wanting accountability.   Soldiers do not quit being soldiers when the uniform is shed.   Soldiers leave war but war never leaves the soldier.   It says so very much when John McCain’s captors offered their respects while a tiny man sits in the white house shaming this country with pettiness and corruption.  

A coward in power that talks tough but has never endured any kind of situation other than entitlement is not worthy of judging who heros are because they are clueless.    The people who do not turn away from this coward do not ever need to call themselves patriotic.   A coward who seethes with jealous when people admire profiles of others who give much of their lives serving for causes of others, whether it be a hero such as John Lewis,  Neil Armstrong,   MLK, John Kerry, Barack Obama, Robert Kennedy, or John McCain is to be shamed.  DJT and people like him, are stains on the American public.   A man who is known for admiring the likes of Vladamir Putin and Kim Jung Yun deserve nothing from the American people but scorn.  

Today on this August 27, less than 48 hours after the death of an American icon,  the flag flies over the White House at full staff.  This is true to form for a coward who seethes with jealousy over a profile in courage.  Donald J Trump is a small man who does not deserve the office of the presidency, and dog catcher would be too high of an office for such a man.  The world is not mourning the loss of DJT so enough about him because DJT will never or could ever rise to the level of respect of any person who has served their country with honor and dignity.     The occupier of the White house needs to begged one big question from this America at this time.  HAVE YOU NO SHAME AT ALL ?  AND LOWER THAT FLAG !

Lowering the flag is the honorable thing to do at this time.
